Each 2nd Friday of the month, the shops and art galleries in Old Towne Petersburg remain open late to welcome visitors and the galleries open new exhibits, with many featuring live music. There are wine and beer tastings, new brews, and concerts. It’s a perfect time to try a new restaurant or discover a shop you have not visited while strolling along historic streets.

VISUAL ARTS: The Petersburg Public Library will be showing the nature photography of Bobby Russell. The Art League will have opening receptions for new exhibits in both the Main Gallery (Three Faces of Art, featuring work by Cynthia Profitt Cornett, Pat Harvey, and Jerry Harvey), and the Members Gallery (featuring the paintings, drawings, and photography of Ukrainian artist Svetlana Sevostyanchik). Old Towne Studio 7 will feature a continuing exhibit of work by artist-in-residence Lisa Mistry. A retrospective exhibit of work by Ken Graves and Joe Miller , as well as books by Dr. John Lynn and Stella McCormack, will be shown at Abigails.

SPECIAL EVENTS: The Petersburg National Battlefield will present a lecture and book-signing in the Petersburg Exchange at15 West Bank Street, from 6:30-8:30 pm, featuring Gordon Rhea and his new book, On to Petersburg: Grant and Lee June 4-15, 1864. The lecture will start at 7:00 pm. Old Towne Studio 7 will present three Family Fun Night events: Wynne Love will lead a clay project with a Strawberry Moon theme ($), Denise Shriver Tipton will lead an American-flag-themed painting event featuring small canvases ($); and there will be a children’s event beginning at 5:45 ($). The Petersburg Skin Coach (Melody Krone) , at 112 West Tabb Street, has joined forces with the Noonday Collection (Deborah Hanson) for an Open House at 112 West Tabb Street.

MUSIC: Matt Via & The Dirty Runaways will be at Old Towne’s Alibi, Triple B (blues) at the Petersburg Library, the Bustin’ Loose Band at the PAAL Art Park ($), Locomotif on the patio at DJ’s Rajun Cajun, Jojo Summersign and Friends on the patio at Andrade’s, Bobby Horne at Abigails, the Sinatra-style crooner Joe LaLuna at Maria’s, Steve Brooks & Shelly Bonet (vocals & keys) in the Martini Lounge at Wabi Sabi, and The Last Real Circus Show in the Music Room at Wabi. Michael Redman will be playing his mellow saxophone at the City Table. Clan Haggis will be at Tramonto Ristorante. Music this month from six to one!
