Each 2nd Friday of the month, the shops and art galleries in Old Towne Petersburg remain open late to welcome visitors and the galleries open new exhibits, with many featuring live music. There are wine and beer tastings, new brews, and concerts. It’s a perfect time to try a new restaurant or discover a shop you have not visited while strolling along historic streets. Don’t miss the 40th Annual Trees of Christmas exhibit at the Petersburg Area Art League.
The shops and art galleries in Old Towne Petersburg remain open late to welcome visitors and the galleries open new exhibits, with many featuring live music. There are wine and beer tastings, new brews, and concerts.
VISUAL ARTS: The Art League will open their 40th Annual Trees of Christmas exhibit in both the Main and the Members galleries. The new Cameron Gallery at 325 Brown Street, opposite Gillfield Baptist Church) will be continue Gus Dickens Art, featuring work in oils by Petersburg native Gus Dickens. Lisa Mistry will be showing her work at Old Towne Studio 7.
SPECIAL EVENTS: The Theatre with Children for Children will stage performances of Santa’s Parlor in the Education Center at the Art League, at six and again at 7:15 pm, with cookies with Santa afterward. Old Towne Studio 7 will have a Friday Fun Night, special event, Family Paint FFTA, beginning at 6:30. Ignatius Hats will have an Open House and Studio Sale at their new showroom and studio (15 South Sycamore) each day of the weekend, but ending at five on Friday, so be there early or come back over the weekend. The Appomattox Regional Governor’s School will stage their annual Writer’s Fest this Saturday, December 14, from ten to six. River Street Market will stage an Old Towne Christmas Market on Saturday from ten to two. Petersburg Skin Coach, on West Tabb Street, will have a Friday for the Arts! Open House. Old Towne’s Alibi will stage Fashion Nightmare on Friday for the Arts! during the evening, with a prize for the tackiest sweater.
MUSIC: Matt Via & The Dirty Runaways will be at Old Towne’s Alibi, Bobby Horne at Abigails, the Sinatra-style crooner Joe LaLuna at Maria’s, Keith Horne (vocals & electric guitar) in the Martini Lounge at Wabi Sabi, and Buddy Lee in the Music Room at Wabi. The Kenzie Kincaid Acoustic Trio (energetic rock-infused country) will be performing at eight at the Farmer’s Market Bistro. Clan Haggis will be at Tramonto Ristorante. Iris Schwartz will be playing Christmas flute music before and after the 6:00 and 7:15 pm performances of Una Harrison’s play, Santa’s Parlor, at the Art League. Music this month from six to one!
